This large bowl with a flared lip is intricately hand-carved, with carvings both emanating from the top of the vessel and from the base. The interior of the piece is glazed in a matte tan that allows the clay’s speckles to burn through, but softens and blurs the dark spots, creating a pattern that is almost like cheetah print. The carvings are both literally and figuratively a highlight of this piece, as they have been infilled with a bright reflective glaze that is somewhere between metallic and pearlescent.
